Our Accompanist - Heidi Schoeman
Heidi Schoeman is married to Johan and they have 2 boys, Nico and Dihan.
Heidi studied piano under Prof Awie van Wyk and vocals under Prof Werner Nel.
In 1993 Heidi was appointed as Musical Director at Coram Deo in the Vaal. She also assumed her first teaching position, teaching mostly music. During these years she was the founding member and conductor of Impromptu Children’s Choir, conducted many a school choirs, and directed many concerts, revues and shows. She also conducted the Vereeniging City Choir in 1998.
In 1998 Heidi opened up a studio called AUK – Ateljee vir Uitvoerende Kunste, where she gave lessons in vocals, piano, guitar and drama. This studio soon grew to host 3 tutors, each specializing in one or more area of performing arts.
In 2001 Heidi travelled to the UK to participate in an International Festival for South Africans called Ukkasie. Heidi performed in 2 separate productions, sharing the stage with many well-known Afrikaans artists.
In 2002 she launched her debut CD called: “Hartklop van my HemelPa”. For this she won the Radio Pulpit award for best debut CD by a female artists and The ATKV Lier toekenning for best female artist.
In 2004, Heidi was awarded the Trevor Nasser/ATKV award for outstanding work in the Arts in the Vaal Triangle. Heidi conducted the ABSA choir (Valies) who won their internal choir competition that year. They travelled to London and Greece as part of their winning year performances.
In 2011 Heidi was appointed as accompanist for the Colla Voce Youth Choir. She resigned in 2016 to focus on further studies in math education. In January of 2018, she was reappointed as accompanist.
Heidi is currently employed at Waterstone College in Kibler Park, Johannesburg as a math teacher, where she also conducts the InterSen Choir and teaches vocals and piano at the School of Arts.
